Documents Required for Court Marriage

A practical checklist for Pakistani applicants and for foreign-national cases, with the case-specific documents that are easy to overlook.

The standard checklist

The final list depends on nationality, marital status and the competent authority. This checklist is enough for a preliminary review, and it prints cleanly if you want to take it with you.

Pakistani applicants

Standard documents
  • Original CNICs, or another legally acceptable identity and age record
  • Recent passport-size photographs, in the number required locally
  • Agreed Haq Mehr details
  • CNICs and particulars of the witnesses
  • Information for every relevant Nikah Nama column
  • Divorce documentation or death certificate, where applicable

Foreign-national cases

Reviewed before travel
  • Valid passport and evidence of lawful entry
  • Evidence of present marital status, where required
  • Divorce decree or death certificate, where applicable
  • Certified translation of documents not issued in English or Urdu
  • Religion or conversion documentation, where legally relevant
  • Any further nationality-specific document identified on review

Case-specific documents

  • Divorce decree, Talaq record or Khula documentation
  • Former spouse’s death certificate
  • Evidence relating to an applicable waiting period
  • Foreign single-status or identity documents
  • Certified translations where a document is not in English or Urdu
  • Any additional affidavit or declaration identified on review

Photographs, witnesses and Haq Mehr

Bring recent passport-size photographs in the number required locally, the CNICs and particulars of your witnesses, and agreed Haq Mehr instructions. Witness requirements depend on the applicable personal law and procedure; witness identity and legal competence are checked in advance.

Please do not send identity documents by web form. Send them on WhatsApp or bring the originals to the appointment, as we advise for your case.
