Court marriage in Pakistan
A lawful Nikah, completed with proper documentation
Although it is commonly called a “court marriage”, the marriage is not ordinarily performed by a judge inside a courtroom. It is a legally documented Nikah entered into with the free consent of both parties and completed through the applicable registration process.
We assist eligible couples with document verification, preparation of the Nikah Nama and affidavit of free will, arrangement of the Nikah Registrar and witnesses, solemnisation of the Nikah, registration through the competent Union Council and assistance obtaining the computerized Marriage Registration Certificate.
Important: Eligibility, documents, registration jurisdiction and processing time depend on the parties’ ages, nationalities, religions, marital histories and the place of marriage. Islamabad Capital Territory and Punjab do not operate under identical legislation, so we apply the law governing the relevant place and date rather than publishing a single nationwide statement.

Eligibility and documents
Both parties must have legal capacity to marry and must enter the marriage by their own free will. Identity, age and consent are verified before any document is prepared.

Applicable age requirement
Marriage-age rules are jurisdiction-specific and can change. We apply the legislation governing the relevant place and date rather than publishing one nationwide age statement.
A previous marriage
A divorced or widowed applicant should provide the competent authority’s divorce documentation or the former spouse’s death certificate, together with any applicable waiting period.
Existing marriage or foreign nationality
Additional requirements may apply to a person already married, and to marriages involving foreign nationals, religious conversion or documents issued abroad. These need individual review.

We recommend obtaining a written quotation after a preliminary review. It should state plainly whether document drafting, Nikah Registrar charges, witness arrangements, professional services and registration assistance are included.

Timing: The Nikah may be completed on the same day once eligibility and documents have been verified. Union Council registration and issuance of the computerized certificate require additional time and depend on the competent authority. “Same day” should never be read as a guarantee that the certificate will issue that day.
Foreign nationals & overseas Pakistanis
Send your documents before you book travel
In many cases a foreign national may marry a Pakistani citizen — but the answer depends on more than holding a passport. Religion, legal capacity, age, existing or previous marriages, immigration status, the format of foreign documents and the intended place of Nikah all have to be reviewed first.
Embassies and issuing countries use different forms for single-status evidence, divorce records and document authentication. A generic online checklist is not a safe basis for a travel booking.
Marriage registration and immigration are separate legal matters. A Pakistani marriage certificate does not by itself grant a visa, residence or citizenship anywhere.

After the Nikah
Registration and the marriage certificate
The Nikah Nama and the computerized Marriage Registration Certificate serve different documentary functions. The Nikah Nama records the marriage contract. The certificate is issued on the basis of the registered marriage record and is commonly required for official and overseas use.
Registration of the marriage is handled by the competent Union Council. The computerized certificate is then issued from that registered record. Those are two separate stages, each with its own processing time.
Overseas Pakistanis
Documents can be reviewed before travel so the in-person steps are arranged efficiently. Physical-presence requirements depend on the proposed procedure and the facts of the case.
Use of documents abroad
A receiving authority abroad may require certified translation, verification or further formalities. Confirm the destination country and the purpose in advance rather than afterwards.

Is court marriage legal in Pakistan?
“Court marriage” usually describes a consensual Nikah completed with legally sufficient documentation and registration. Legality depends on capacity, consent and compliance with the law applicable to the parties and the jurisdiction.
Does the marriage take place inside a courtroom?
Ordinarily, no. A Nikah Registrar solemnises the Nikah before witnesses. The expression “court marriage” describes the lawyer-guided, documented process rather than a ceremony conducted by a judge.
Can the Nikah be completed on the same day?
It may be possible once eligibility and documents have been verified and the appointment and personnel are arranged. Registration and the computerized certificate take additional time and depend on the competent authority.
Is parental consent required?
That depends on legal capacity, age and the law governing the case. We do not apply a single answer without first confirming the relevant jurisdiction and the facts.
Are witnesses required?
Witness requirements depend on the applicable personal law and procedure. For a Muslim Nikah handled through our service, witness identity and legal competence are checked in advance.
Can a foreign national marry a Pakistani citizen?
It may be possible, subject to nationality, immigration status, religion, marital status and acceptable foreign documentation. Each case needs individual review before travel is booked.
What is the difference between the Nikah Nama and the MRC?
The Nikah Nama records the marriage contract. The computerized Marriage Registration Certificate is issued on the basis of the registered marriage record and is commonly required for official use.
